AIRBRUSH or TRADITIONAL MAKEUP?
By Mayet Natores Airbrush and traditional makeups are two of the equally superb products used to glamorize a person. Though they give almost the same outcome, a few differences might leave you confused as to which one to wear on your special event. 1. COST Airbrush makeup service is more expensive than traditional makeup. Not because airbrush products are more pricey but it is the skill of the makeup artist that counts. Definitely, not all makeup artists are good at airbrushing. 2. THE FEEL Traditional makeup is extremely flexible. The makeup artist can undo and adjust the shade of the product she has previously applied if she thinks necessary. However, it can feel heavier as more and more products are applied on the face most especially when there are too many flaws to be covered. On the other hand, since airbrush makeup dries up quickly, it requires precise color judgment and even application the moment it is applied. Thus, it cannot be altered once sprayed on the face. Furthermore, since the product is airborne, it is light-weight -- you would not even feel it is there. 3. APPEARANCE Both look great in person and on camera. However, traditional makeup is more opaque making it good in concealing dark or reddish spots while airbrush makeup is good on already beautiful skin. When combined, both offer great results. This happens when traditional concealers are applied to camouflage severe skin flaws before airbrush foundation. The airbrush makeup on top makes the thick coverage look sheer as if the skin is naturally smooth. ON WRINKLES Traditional makeup, most especially an age-defying liquid foundation minimizes the appearance of wrinkles. Airbrush makeup on the other hand will highlight them if too much product is sprayed. This is because the viscosity of airbrush makeup is higher than that of traditional makeup. When you smile, the airbrush makeup is likely to crack. One reason why it is applied less on eye areas and laugh lines. However, it still depends what kind of airbrush makeup is used because there are two common types: silicone-based and water-based. Water-based airbrush is friendlier with mature skin than silicone because of lesser viscosity. WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE ON CAMERA? Today’s cameras have higher resolution making every single detail more visible. Airbrush makeup looks better and finer on camera than traditional makeup. This is why models with airbrush makeup seem to have very smooth skin. 4. DURABILITY Traditional makeup can stay at its best up to 8 hours. Airbrush makeup, particularly the silicone-based can stay more than 24 hours and need much less touch ups. Between silicone-based and water-based airbrush, the previous is more ideal in the Philippines with our almost always humid weather. The more you sweat, the more the silicone hugs your skin which means, you can rest assured it will not wear off even if your perspiration go wild and even if you get wet in the rain. Now that you have an idea of the advantages and disadvantages of traditional and airbrush makeup, your next step is choosing your makeup artist. Be wise. Choose the one who can bring out the best version of you. Makeup is just a tool. It is still your makeup artist’s craft that will do wonders. And take note, on your big day, people will stare. Make it worth their while. |
